The Sasanokawa Shuzo / Asaka Distillery was founded in 1765 in Koriyama, near Lake Inawashiro in the Fukushima region of Japan. Initially, rice, sake and shochu liqueurs were prepared. Almost 200 years later, they decided to dive into the whiskey market in 1946, producing very high quality whiskeys and limited editions that are exported around the world.

The company took a step forward in the 1980s with Cherrhisky, relying heavily on imported Scotch whiskey and molasses-based liqueur. At the time, they were Tohoku's main “Ji-whiskey” producer.

After that particular whiskey boom ended, Sasanokawa Shuzo stopped distilling his own whiskey at the Yamazakura Distillery. They also had a lot of stocks that matured in different barrels at the distillery. Despite not making their own whiskey at the time, the famous company came to the rescue of Ichiro Akuto, who needed a place to store around 400 barrels of Hanyu in 2004. A company they eventually bought to become Asaka.

Founded in 1765, Sasanokawa Shuzo is the oldest brewery in the Tohoku region of northeastern Japan. Specializing in traditional Japanese beverages, and in particular sake, Sasanokawa Shuzo decided to try the whiskey adventure in 1946. With nearly 200 years of experience in the production of Japanese spirits, the company quickly demonstrated its mastery in the production of high-end whiskeys. quality. The Asaka Distillery was founded in 2015 to meet the growing demand for Japanese whiskeys. Located in the heart of the Fukushima Mountains, the Asaka Distillery intends to use its centuries-old know-how to deliver whiskeys all elegantly and delicately.
