The history of Maison G.H.MUMM in winemaking dates back to 1827, the date of its official foundation. The origins of the Mumm family, whose lineage includes barons and knights, date back to the 12th century. In 1761 the family already owned a winemaking and marketing business based in Cologne, Germany, under the name “P. A. Mumm”, initials and last name of its owner Peter Arnold Mumm. The company owned extensive vineyards in the Rhine Valley, where it made its own wines.
In the early years of the 19th century, they discovered the potential of sparkling wines made in the French region of Champagne. and they made the decision to create a branch of the family business in the Champagne region. From the beginning, quality was the key watchword for the partners of the new entity founded in 1827 and has remained so for all its successors.
