Yoichi Single Malt 15 Years Old
Nikka Whisky
/Whisky
Single MaltThis is a single malt whisky from the Yoichi Distillery, Nikka's first distillery in Hokkaido. Aged and matured for 15 years or more in oak casks, this whisky is characterized by a smoky, ripe aroma and a smooth, complex palate.
The Yoichi distillery is Nikka's first, built in 1934. Founder Masataka Taketsuru chose the town of Yoichi in Hokkaido for its environmental conditions similar to those of Scotland, where he learned to make whisky.
Yoichi single malt whiskies are described as intense and robust, with refined peat notes and a smoky character derived from traditional direct charcoal distillation. The sea breeze from Ishikari Bay imparts a saline nuance to the whisky during its maturation.
