Since 1987 Mar de Frades has been creating genuine wines with a unique personality that seek to surprise. Today it is one of the most sought-after white wine brands in Spain, offering a first-class, innovative and sophisticated product.
Mar de Frades and its history is linked to that of D.O. RIAS BAIXAS. A pioneering winery in the region that represents the deep-rooted winemaking tradition of the Salnés Valley, the historic capital of Albariño. This is where the legend of this variety begins and it is here that the most refined and impressive white wines in Spain are made.
Mar de Frades, a Galician term that means “sea of the sick”, is also the name of a place in front of the Ría de Arosa at the mouth of the Umia River, where the ancient pilgrims disembarked to continue their way to Santiago de Compostela.
Mar de Frades is located at the foot of the Finca Valiñas vineyard on the edge of a mountain in the heart of the Salnés Valley in front of the Ría de Arousa, which softens the Atlantic breeze that caresses this magical place. In the middle of this place the Mar de Frades winery emerges with its slender gray figure made of granite and copper, polished by the rigors of the Galician climate.
