Tasting notes
- Deep old gold.
- Hints of fruit and spicy complexity. Clean notes of vanilla and tropical fruits. Depth and complexity: sweet, spicy and rich, finishing with dense toffee and toasted coconut.
- Slow to venture forward and quite slimy in a straight line. Cooling, then spicy and slightly charred. Increasingly rich, still sweet, but now with caramel and chocolate; burnt sugar in a Crème Brûlée.
- Smooth, light and slightly drying, with attractive bitter chocolate notes. Not overly long, with a hint of faint smoke at the end.

Founded by Helen Cumming in 1811 as an illicit distillery and licensed in 1824, Cardhu is the first distillery to be officially pioneered by a woman. Two women, in fact: in 1872, Elizabeth Cummings, daughter-in-law of the founders, took over the running of the distillery and set about refining the flavour and character of the whisky we know today – the effortless, elegant, generous spirit, born of hard work and determination.
